The hot weather in Rome is making me miss snow.

I've had the fan going all day. I'm scared to see what my electric bill is going to look like.

I don't even ski but I saw this photo of Cortina from Click.it and wished I was there. I can just see myself inside with some nice hot chocolate reading a book by the fire. Of course my ridiculously gorgeous luver would try to distract me but I would tell him per favore, I need to read.

How are you staying cool this summer?

The AC and lots of water. I dont stay outdoors much due to time unfortunatley( work and home). I am craving fall.

I don't know if I could ever say I *miss* snow. But I live in upstate New York, so I don't really get a chance to miss it :)

I live on the West Coast of British Columbia, Canada. The weather here is similar to Seattle so it never gets really hot or muggy. I'm not sure I'd survive a Roman summer.
I'll think cool thoughts for you.

I'm meeeeeeelting! Seriously.

Living in Pittsburgh, the area is inundated with some form of precipitation all year round. And the winters here are not pleasant. But I'm spent most of my summer working at home so that's how I stay cool.

And in response to an earlier comment, the side-eye encounter actually happened at Kali's beach bar, but it was a server and not the owner. I guess that guy (the owner) practices his religion as he sees fit. But as I have come to understand it, Rastafarians do not drink alcohol. I guess I'm out!

I could not even sleep last night it is so hot here in Rome. I had to get up and grab this ice pack from the freezer and wrap it in a tea towel and sleep with it pressed to my body!
I need to buy a fan too but the old lady in the fan shop today was trying to rip me off big time so I walked away fan less...

Oh man, I love this photo and especially your description of your man trying to tempt you away from your book and hot chocolate, tee hee!! That is some mind power, now. to you and Leanne -- when I wrote on my blog yesterday about Paris being hot, I knew it was ridiculous. And now today the heat broke with some rainstorms. I can't imagine suffering like y'all are . .. and the indignity of the lady in the store being SO annoying that Leanne had to walk out SANS fan. . .

find a swimming pool, quick!

I rush to work in the morning if it's really really hot outside. But this summer in France hasn't been that horrible so far and anyway I like heat (not a permanent sauna of course...)
always nice to read you !

I don't know how you deal. I'm hot as hell, and I have AC. Of course my house has 3 distinct cooling levels. Basement is freezing...year round (where we spend most of our time, so not cool). First floor is perfect. Upstairs is BURNING UP...year round. That's what I get for buying a house built in 1925.

Oh, every window in the house is open and if it's really bad, I run the fans. I do have ac, ma sono tirchia (fiscally conservative), so I don't run it unless requested by a specific family member who refuses to visit me unless I do.

glamah16 - I'm craving it too. Very excited that I now live in place where there is a fall.

my melange - I went to Syracuse U. I know of what you speak.

ms. violetta - thank you.

romerican - seriously, I think yesterday was the most humid day I've experienced since my DC days.

ninety9 - I wish I was at Kali's right now eating a nice goat cheese salad. Okay, I thought Rasta did not drink, I wasn't sure. I think it hilarious that guy gave you the side-eye.

leanne - try Euronics if there is one near you. It's were I bought my fan. It's a chain, no bargaining over prices. Last night it wasn't bad where I am if I opened my windows. Problem, loud ass drunk American students. even with my ear plugs I had to shut the windows at least a little. Can't wait until fall. Or I make enough money to buy a weekend place out by the beach or in the country away from said students. ha

kimb - yes I have a very active imagination (which I guess is a good think for a writer). Some day I hope to actually have a boyfriend and worry about such distractions. :) Glad to hear the heat broke in Paris. I hope it breaks here soon.

nine - thank you. Despite my family being from the Caribbean I don't love hot weather. Not sure why this is.

gibber - I'm sorry what is AC? I went to the post office yesterday. That version of AC meant you were sweating buckets vs. a lake.

homebody - yes it helps to open all the windows. I also close my wooden shutters the minute the sun starts to hit my building. They stay closed all day.

Oh my gosh, please don't remind me of the heat here in Florence! Our air con broke two days ago (how I don't know as it brand new?) and there is not one person in Florence working in August that can come and fix it. And I even have the air con going all night in winter so i am DYING right now!!! Sorry i know how spoilt I am and environmentally unfriendly etc etc but I had to vent....By the way, if you get a chance in winter, you should try to go to Abetone for snow, it's truly beautiful and I can confirm they have good hot chocolates there.

Luckily our apartment has triple exposure so with all the windows open we get a nice breeze that keeps us from going crazy. Oh, and we throw water at each other. ;)

I'm going to the beach today...you've inspired me.

it'll come soon enough and then we'll be wishing away the cold weather!

monika - thanks for the travel tip. Poverina. I hope it cools off in Florence soon. I must write a post about how EVERYTHING non-tourist related is shutting down. This is my first summer here. I knew things closed but I don't think I really understood. ha

joanna - I actually went out to run errands today. I am still recovering. I had a granita, and later shaved ice with cherry syrup. That helped a little.

claudia - molto gelosa! have fun.

eryn - will try this winter not to complain about the cold (unless it's freezing of course..ha). I don't think it gets that cold in Rome. It might be colder than L.A. but def. warmer than upstate NY. I haven't lived in place that has winter for ten years. I better stock up on some sweaters.

Water, water, water and, I'm afraid to say, AC.

I'm a hot weather wimp. We're finally starting to get slightly cooler days. I ache for fall.

Delina said...

That picture is making me feel cooler already! I miss the cold so much.

I think i might be getting too used to AC as I spend most of the time in an air conned office plus we have it at home too - though not as powerful.

Being a foolish kiwi chick, I moved to Belgium where summers are almost always guaranteed cool.

jen - I'm a hot weather wimp too.

delina- again I say...what is AC? ha

di mackey - lucky you. Are the winters there freezing?

The baby and I lie around all day in tank tops and undies (or in baby's case diaper) next to the fan. I take 2 showers a day and baby has one bath. This is the only way to keep cool AC-less and car-less in roasting Rome.

kataroma - I have been taking two showers a day as well. I'm AC-less and car-less too.

It feels like the humidity broke a little yesterday. This morning when I went to work out it wasn't too hot.
I'm addicted to weather.com.
